Privacy Policy

SpectaLing is built privacy-first. It runs on your device and does not collect, store, or transmit your personal data to us. There are no SpectaLing accounts and no SpectaLing servers that receive your content.

What stays on your device

• Your audio, video, transcripts, translations, and edits are stored on your device — and synced only through your own iCloud account if you choose to enable iCloud.
• Transcription (Whisper, Parakeet), speaker labeling, and on-device translation (Apple Intelligence, Gemma, Apple Translation) run entirely on your device. The audio and text never leave it.

Information we do not collect

• We do not collect personal information, usage analytics, advertising identifiers, or your contacts.
• SpectaLing has no login and operates no servers that receive your media, transcripts, or activity.

Third-party services you choose to use

SpectaLing connects to outside services only when you explicitly enable them, using your own credentials:

• Cloud AI (bring your own key) — If you choose a cloud model (Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, or OpenAI GPT) for transcription or translation, the relevant text or audio is sent to that provider using the API key you supply. That data is handled under that provider's privacy policy. SpectaLing does not receive or store it.
• Model downloads — On first use, SpectaLing downloads transcription and translation models (for example from Hugging Face) so they can run on your device afterward. These requests fetch model files only; your audio and transcripts are not part of them.
• Media you import by URL or podcast — When you paste a link or subscribe to a podcast, SpectaLing fetches that media from its source so it can transcribe it on your device.

These connections are optional. With on-device AI and local files, SpectaLing works fully offline, making no external requests.

Children's privacy

SpectaLing does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new date.
